The Ladies Bible Class meets every Tuesday morning at 9:30. It is taught by Marilyn LaStrape.
*The goal of the class is to challenge the sisters to become deeper partakers of God’s divine holiness through an in-depth study and application of his word.
*The class mails get well cards weekly and sympathy cards as needed.
*The class visits the sick/shut-ins the last Tuesday of each month in small groups.
*The class prepares special holiday baskets for the sick/shut-ins.
*The class contributes some support to the Cuban children.
There is usually a luncheon following the last class in May when the class breaks for the summer. Contact Marilyn LaStrape if you have further questions on the class.
If you can sew or crochet or you would like to donate cuts of colorful fabric and yarn there is a place for everyone in the sewing circle. This is a free will ministry and is worked from the comfort of your home. We provide the following services:
*Lap throws to area nursing homes
*Adult bibs to area nursing homes
*Security blankets (child size) to Linus Blankets and Family Abuse Center
*Receiving blankets for Net Care Pregnancy Center, along with items needed to take care of newborns to one year of age. Crocheted items are cherished.
Throughout the year the members at New Road donate items to be distributed to those in need. The ladies in this ministry share the same scheduled workdays as the Abigail Sisters. Those who work this ministry inventory clothes for distribution. Our main outreach includes the following:
*Family Abuse Shelter
*Children Homes
*Nursing Homes (when there is a particular need)
*Those who come the building needing clothes
Our card ministry has some of the best organized ladies you’ll ever meet. Sending cards for birthdays, sympathy or just because I’m thinking of you can really lift a sister or brother’s spirit. These ladies also participate in our weekly Encourager mail out.
Contact Sharon Youngblood for more information in these programs.
This is a group of Christian ladies that meet once a month to enjoy fellowship. Each month a different group of ladies plan the menu and decorations, plan games and the fun of the evening. We have a group within the Special Sisters call “Secret Sister”. This group draws a name and shows special attention to this one person during the months we meet. We do our best to keep our identity a secret from that person. We try to meet their prayer needs and remember special times in their life with a card or small gift of remembrance.
All in all it is a great time to know each other better and have a night out with the girls. It is for any and all women of the New Road Church Family. Wanda Ryals heads up this program.
This is a paper for the ladies and by the ladies. Wanda Ryals started this and has been revised some over the years. Marilyn LaStrape now has a monthly article called Bible Challenge for Growth. Originally a lady of the congregation was featured (at the suggestion of other ladies) as the Lamp Lighter of the Month. This was to be someone that was an inspiration to that person and a “Shining Example of Christianity” to them. It seemed difficult to get ladies to participate and suggest others so as of 2006 we have changed this to a time to introduce someone each month in an article called “Let Us Get To Know You”. In this article we hope to introduce our new comers and other interests to the ladies. We feature a monthly recipe from one of our ladies in Little Cook’s Corner. A Monthly Scripture is given to consider and of articles of interest. We hope you will pick up a publication and enjoy it as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
Each year the ladies have a Retreat or Ladies Day. This is usually conducted in February. It has proven to be a very rewarding time for our ladies and all the ladies that wish to participate. This past year was very successful with an attendance of nearly 100 women.
This is an email* type newsletter for which all ladies of the congregation can participate. When you do your daily Bible study, and you come across a scripture that really stands out to you or you do extensive study on a topic and would like to share it with other ladies, email it to Belinda Acock. She complies the thoughts she receives each week into the “Thoughts of Encouragement” and in turn emails it to each of the ladies with an email address. Email is usually sent out every Tuesday. This may not always “encourage” us you might think. You may think of encouragement as something that makes you feel good. It can be, but not always. What it may do and is intended to do is “encourage” us to be better Christians; “encourage” us to think more about God; “encourage” us to study; or “encourage” us to do many things to bring honor and glory to God Our Father.
If you have any questions about “Thoughts of Encouragement”, call Belinda Acock at 836-0191. Or you can just email her and ask to be put on the list at: puzzlemom731@sbcglobal.net.
*If you do not have email: A new weekly copy of this will be in the foyer. Also, you can still have your thoughts and ideas put in the email by just handing it to Belinda during any of the services.
SCRAPBOOK AND FELLOWSHIP
Sisters, come join us a t 7:00 pm, on the 2nd Friday of every month. We have set this time aside to meet at the building, to scrapbook, work on a craft, play a game or just talk. Bring a snack, a friend or just come as you are. Mark your calendars, and think about spending some stress-free evening with your sisters in Christ.
