TEXAS - Cherokee Home for Children
Cherokee, Texas
Cherokee Home was the result of the concern by
dedicated Christians in Abilene, Texas for the needs of unfortunate
children. In May 1956,
the Cherokee Church of Christ accepted responsibility to begin the
home.
Today the oversight of the home is under the elders of Austin
Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood, Texas.
The mission and purpose of the home is to provide
a Christian Home environment for children dependent upon others for
care, and to promote their growth physically, emotionally,
educationally, and spiritually.
A main focus is to develop the child through the
teaching of God’s word.
The goal is to guide the young person toward a devoted life of good
citizenship in the world and ultimately in the Kingdom of God.
